TOURNAMENT SUMMARY

14 Pink went undefeated this past weekend at our first League Tournament at Capital Sports Center in Sacramento. Coaches were pleased with how each player performed individually and as part of the team. All our hard work is really starting to show!

OFFENSE—THINGS TO CELEBRATE!

Serving

  • The team averaged a 34% ace percentage!
  • Cami led the team in aces, earning 18 aces throughout the day.
  • Surpassing goals: Going in to the tournament we had a team goal of serving 80%, and we surpassed this goal, serving as a team at 87.5% (even better than last tournament)!
  • Not folding under pressure! Even in our closest games, no player missed a serve at game point!

Hitting

  • The team averaged a 41% kill percentage! Coaches were very excited by all the big swings.
  • Andrea led the team this weekend with 12 kills and a kill percentage of 50%!
  • Every player on the team had at least one kill!

OFFENSE—THINGS TO PRACTICE…

Serving

  • More serving at practice will help players serve aggressively with confidence.

Hitting

  • Working on a more diverse offense: All 3 hitters should be utilized when setting the front row.
  • Running a 6-2: Adding a second setting position will allow more players to play in each game and can help develop an offense with more hitters.

DEFENSE—THINGS TO CELEBRATE!

Receive

  • The team had multiple players passing close to the team goal of 2.00!

Digging

  • Selina, Claire and Lilly led the team in most digs.
  • Less dropped balls! The few digging errors made were not because of a lack of hustle!

Blocking

  • 3 different players had at least 1 solo block!
  • Andrea led the team with 2 solo blocks!

DEFENSE—THINGS TO PRACTICE…

Receive

  • Covering short serves: We can’t get caught too deep in serve receive.
  • Transitioning to and from Home Base: We can’t get stuck in our serve receive positions, and should be hustling to our defensive spots as soon as we return the serve.
  • Don’t stand up when we pass: Shoulders should not come up when receiving a serve. Platforms should stay in front of our bodies and be angled to target.

Digging

  • Tip Defense: Reading a hitter around the block will help players know when to cover short or stay deep.

Blocking

  • The team is still integrating blocking into practices. Coaches would like players to focus on pressing forward when blocking at the net.
