Tournament Summary

Our first tournament in Copper was a success. We started 12th and finished 8th, moving the right direction. We only won 1 game, but it was the right one to win to stay in Copper for the next league.

We played 2 teams that we had previously played and we played them tougher than before showing improvement! I think we will beat them next time!

What went well...

  • Serving: We are getting so close to achieving the goal of aggressive serves and minimal errors! We had our best serve % of the error with 94% in, only missed 9 serves (in the 3 games stated) And our ace % as 13.2% another season record!
  • Offense: We ran 3's in the middle! That was a first for us and we have only practiced it a little. Adding more options for our hitters will make our offense more dynamic and tougher to defend. Our middle offense just keeps getting stronger!
  • Right side defense improved, we dug a lot more balls on the right side at this tournament. That's how defense is supposed to be played!
  • Out of system: Our play our of the back row is improving and our libero's setting out of system is effective. Having options from right front, right back, middle back and left front and utilizing all of them makes it tough for the opponent to defend!

What we can improve on...

  • Setting the block:  We need to practice BSBH and set the block in front of the hitter! It's better to be too far inside than to far outside.
  • Hitting: Our hitting wasn't as consistent as I have seen it in the past, we had 3 players in the negative, we need to be able keep the ball in play when needed and swing around the defense. Staying behind the ball and looking for the holes and having teammates calling out the holes will help our hitters.
  • Serve Receive: We had way way way too many balls drop with no one going for them! Really not acceptable at this level. Communication #1, Ready #1, Get the ball #1, no excuses!

You earn your trophies at practice, you just pick them up at competitions
