TOURNAMENT SUMMARY

14 Pink played last weekend in the League 4 tournament at the Capital Sports Center in Sacramento, CA. We finished seeded 20th (started at 19), with 3 wins and 1 loss. We had a lot of exciting moments, from perfectly placed serves resulting in aces to some big blocks.

OFFENSE—THINGS TO CELEBRATE!

Serving

  • The team averaged a 30% ace percentage!
  • Claire and Sophia led the team in aces.
  • Meeting goals: Going in to the tournament we had a team goal of serving 80%, and we surpassed this goal, serving as a team at 82%!

Hitting

  • The team averaged a 26% kill percentage, with 146 Hitting Attempts!
  • Andrea led the team with 11 kills.
  • Andrea and Ciera had the highest kill percentages, both over 30%.

OFFENSE—THINGS TO PRACTICE…

Serving

  • Consistent serving: Overall this was not the team’s best tournament for serving, we had too many missed serves.

Hitting

  • Faster offense: Hitters should be ready for a quick set coming off a tight pass to the net. We should keep running our offense, even if it’s not a perfect pass!
  • Setting the hot hitter: Each game typically has a different hitter who is hitting particularly well. Running our offense around this hot hitter should lead to more earned points!

DEFENSE—THINGS TO CELEBRATE!

Receive

  • Lilly and Sophia had the highest passing scores this tournament, 2.19 and 2.17!

Digging

  • Lilly and Cami led the team in most digs.
  • Reading the offense! Players did great knowing when to be in each defense, based on which type of attack was being sent over.

Blocking

  • Andrea led the team with 4 solo blocks!
  • Multiple players got touches at the net…Coaches are very excited to see this improvement!

DEFENSE—THINGS TO PRACTICE…

Receive

  • The team had over 130 passing attempts (Serve Receive and Free Ball), with an average passing score of 1.76. This score is below our team passing goal of 2.00.
  • Don’t stand up when we pass! Stay low and be squared to target.

Digging

  • Communication. More talking and calling the ball at least three times will help players trust those around them, and result in stronger passes.

Blocking

  • Coaches would like players to focus on being confident in setting the block and then pressing forward at the net.
