Tournament Summary

Our first tournament of the season and we are off to a great start. I really am very pleased with how the team played. Most impressed with how well the girls get along and how much they support one another.

Thank you to Stephen for filming and setting up the team dinner, it's always nice to hang out with everyone. Thanks Andy for the Hotel, and Rhonda for taking pictures and all the parents for cheering us on!

Offense - What went well...

Hitting

  • Kate and Chloe did a great job playing middle for the very first time. When we connected in the middle we earned many points. Good choices on tipping and hitting to the corners
  • Both setters, Kaitlyn and Izzy did a good job mixing up the sets
  • Our outsides, Haley, Meera and Stephanie improved their arm swing and got stronger by the end of the tournament.
  • Right Sides, Izzy and Hunter were fierce and our top kill leaders for the tournament

Serving

  • Serving aggressive to our zones is key to taking the opponent out of system. By the end of the tournament we were doing much better at serving our zones and being aggressive.
  • Haley and Izzy had the most Aces with Sydney and Chloe just behind them.
  • The short serves....oh so nice!

Offense - What we need to work on...

Hitting

  • Outsides need to work on hitting "bad balls" to targets
  • Hitting line/right back for everyone
  • Setters communicating with the hitters on the plays

Serving

  • Aggressive serves to our target
  • Keeping service errors under 8% we were at 14% for the tournament
  • Our ace % as a team as 13%, we should aim for 15%

defense - what went well...

Blocking

  • Our communication in calling the block was good, we just need to do it every time
  • Movement and transitions were good

 Digging

  • Good coverage, most of the time we were in the right place
  • Sydney and Maddy did fantastic at hitting the ground
  • 247 digs with 48 errors is a dig ratio of 83.7%

Receive

  • We passed a 1.88, which is awesome. Exactly where I would want us to be for right now.
  • Sydney lead the team in receive with a 2.20 pass rating

defense - what we need to work on...

Blocking

  • Overpass blocking
  • Jumping higher, please

Digging

  • Downball defense
  •  Line digging
  • Staying chest down when we dig, keeping our platform in front of our bodies

Receive

  • Short serves
  • Using our hands on float serves
  • More talking
