Premier League Qualifiers

By Kylie Stasko 02/03/2019, 11:00am PST

12 Pink played together in their first tournament! It was so exciting to see them play together for the first time.  They worked so hard and went 2-4.

What we learned/ What went well:

We learned so much during our first tournament and improved greatly! The girls learned lots of tournament rules and how to ref, while improving their ball control and individual skills. Their ball control continued to grow throughout the day and they got more and more aggressive at the net. While in the front row, players were not afraid to go up for the ball and try to make a play out of it. We also had a couple serving runs and aces in each game! One of the biggest improvements that I saw was in the way that the girls worked with each other. They started to work together as a team, calling the ball, cheering each other on and going out of their way to give each other high fives.

What we need to work on:

We have a couple weeks until our next tournament and we are going to continue to work on our serving, defense and 3-touch plays. The girls have been working on their overhand serves in practice and they are getting more confident each time. I also have been working with them on 3-touch plays. We had quite a few in each game, but now we will work on sending more downball/hits over the net, then freeballs. Part of working on 3-touch plays will be starting with a good first pass, so therefore making sure that we are in the correct defensive position and low and ready for the ball. All of which aspects of defense we will continue to work on!

Overall, the girls played amazing and worked so hard. I think that they learned so much and returned to practice very focused and determined to continue to improve and develop their skills as individuals and as a team. I am very excited to watch them in the next tournament and see the growth in them throughout the season!
